Trees For Life is delighted with the news that the Police Mounted Operations Unit will not move to the Adelaide Park Lands. On 8 June, the Premier announced the facility will have a new home at Adelaide Airport. There has been an incredible outpouring of support for our Park Lands over the past two months, particularly the imperative to save Mirnu Wirra/Park 21, an area that is home to incredible biodiversity, including over 70 species of native plants — many very rare — as well as birds and butterflies; including the rare Chequered copper butterfly (Lucia limbaria), and many other species. Our Bush For Life site in Mirnu Wirra is cared for by passionate volunteers and this patch of local bushland is loved by many South Australians.
We have worked closely with Adelaide Park Lands Association, Conservation SA, Butterfly Conservation South Australia, Nature Conservation Society of South Australia, Jeffrey Newchurch, and Ann Prescott - It's Blue With Five Petals to achieve this outcome. Thank you to everyone who attended the rallies, wrote emails or letters, and supported this campaign by showing your love for nature and our Park Lands. We couldn't have done this without you.
