Habitat Tracker project

Trees For Life’s newest project, Habitat Tracker, invites citizen scientists to measure the health of the habitats we are restoring.

Habitat Tracker is a pilot project that will test methods that the community can use to measure the health of their local habitat. Volunteers will test the proposed methods on one of 36 sites in the Adelaide, Hills & Fleurieu, and Northern & Yorke regions.

Trees For Life is currently calling for Expressions of Interest from people who might like to volunteer on the project.  If you enjoy learning new things or you’re interested in connecting with nature in a different way, please read on for more information.

What’s Involved

Habitat Tracker will begin in April 2026 with a workshop for the volunteer citizen scientists, covering the theory and practical skills required for data collection. There will be two data collection periods, the first in Autumn 2026, and another in Spring 2026. Volunteers will visit their site in pairs and conduct a survey. We estimate that each survey will take between 2-4 hours to complete, plus 1-2 hours for online data entry.

Interested?

Habitat Tracker volunteers will be provided with training and support throughout the project. If you’re interested, please complete the Expression of Interest form.

This project is made possible by funds provided by the Department for Environment and Water, through the Citizen Science Fund.
