Trees For Life responds to COVID-19

A message from our CEO

The events and challenges of 2020 have been unprecedented. Fortunately, at Trees For Life we’re used to meeting challenges head-on, and our strong community and resourceful staff are working together to ensure we continue activities as much as possible, at the same time keeping everyone safe and playing our part in containing COVID-19.

We continue to nurture thousands of seedlings - in our nursery and by volunteer growers in backyards across the state - so we can lend much needed support to people living on the land; many of whom are recovering from the recent bushfires.

It has been disappointing to postpone our Bush For Life activities and training, particularly at a time with so many new people wanting to join us to help with bushfire recovery. We look forward to gearing up again as soon as it is safe to do so.

Now more than ever, we’re being reminded what is really important. The people we love, helping each other, having a safe haven and a healthy environment. At Trees For Life we’ll continue to work together - hopefully and passionately - to protect and restore life across our magnificent state.

Stay well and safely connected – with each other, with us and with nature.

Our programs

Bush For Life

After reviewing many factors, we have taken the difficult decision to cease all Bush For Life volunteering at this stage. This includes: Bush Action Teams, Mini Bush Action Teams, Bush Management Days and unsupervised volunteers. We encourage our volunteers to stay at home for the time being. We intend to recommence restricted volunteering on 1st June if it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we will stay in touch with volunteers remotely.

All Bushcare Workshops, and Stepping Stones and Regenerate events are cancelled until further notice.

To our dedicated volunteers, we thank you for your commitment and we look forward to the future when we can all continue to take action for the land we love.

Tree Scheme and Nursery

Our Westwood Nursery is closed to the public and general volunteers until further notice. We can still receive back-up from our volunteer growers. Please call the office on 8406 0500 if you intend to drop off your seedlings so we can advise you of the procedure and notify the nursery. Tree guards and stakes will be available to collect at the nursery from 1 April 2020. Please phone ahead and let us know when you aim to pick up so we can advise you of the procedure.

The time to hand over seedlings is fast approaching and all Tree Scheme landholders and volunteers will receive instructions on how to prepare seedlings and conduct a safe handover.

We have moved the Back-Up Out event to 4 to 7 June from 10am - 12pm daily. If you’re a Tree Scheme volunteer grower or landholder, you will receive an update on collecting back-up and further information about event details in mid-May.

Our Garden Plant Sale will now be held from 16 to 18 July from 9am - 1pm (pending Australian Government restrictions at that time). Please pop this date in your diary and we look forward to seeing you at our Westwood Nursery.
